I recently got a place in Mexico FINALLY finished...But I put it up for sale before even living in it 1 day.

As I was thinking about the cost, it FUCKING HIT ME.

In the 80's, my Mom and I went to Mexico to sell off her property, she was like me very cautious and not trusting of banks.

A week after we sold the Peso Collapsed...Basically within a month it was worth 1/1000th of what it used to be worth.

Remember this:  When I was born it was 8 pesos for a dollar...8 SILVER OUNCES IN COINAGE.

It got so bad that they started printing out 1,000/5,000/10,000/50,000/100,000+ peso bills since food had shot up 1000X and most wages hadn't obviously.

Then they reset the system...THEY TOOK SISSORS AND CUT OFF THE 3 ZEROS OFF THE BILLS.

Then later took those out of circulation and now give us 20/50/100 bills.

But the truth is EACH OF THOSE WAS ACTUALLY 20,000/50,000/100,000.

So let's just say I paid 1.5 million pesos for my place...Which isn't a lot compared to the US.

It means I actually paid 1,500,000,000 pesos...That's a billion and a half of the old currency.

But people just shrugged and kept using it and everyone forgot about it.

Like the country hadn't collapsed...Like the entire country economic system wasn't fucked.

AND I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYONE ON THE RADIO, TV, NEWSPAPERS EVER MENTION IT.

And I listen to purely political stuff in English and Spanish.

How is that even possible?

I'm not talking in some far away country that we've never heard of in Asia or Africa.

Not talking about some tiny country that doesn't affect the US.

Not talking about a people who aren't part of American History and Society...We're about 30% of the population.

But people are THAT stupid, even me...Since it just DAWNED on me how crazy it all is.
