Got a new neighbor, came over while waiting for the owner, came in asked questions, it was a very hot day so got some beer and snacks for him, helped him out and even hooked him up with several construction guys who are solid for a project.

They knew ME so they gave HIM a very good price DOING ME THE FAVOR.

Then I hooked him up with a material place and between both saved him about $2000...He said "thanks."

Next day he brought his wife while waiting for the topographer, asked to sit in my porch, so made them fancy coffees and served them pasteries while they waited...He said "Thanks."

Today he came to ask me a favor for when his materials arrive which I agreed to, then kinda looked like he expected me to offer him beers and snacks again.

Now this guy is a trucker, drives a brand new rig probably worth $250K+, he mentioned he had other homes and properties up north.

So I pretended to start cleaning my garden, till he left.

If you're going to ask a favor from a stranger who has done you a few favors, it be nice if you brought me a 6 pack to share and chit chat...I don't even drink beer often nor like it...It's the principle of the thing.

So now I'm not going to do shit for him from now on.

He's a leech who doesn't know he's a leech.

The thing was I was going to hook him up with my material guy who would have saved him a pretty penny on rock, cement, cal and other building materials.

Dude's going to need at least 750 bags of cement and 1000 bags of cal etc etc...I was going to get it for him at about 25% cheaper...But now?

For the sake of a 6 pack or a piece of gum or a taco he's going to get fucked for being cheap and a leech.

If you give favors for free, people don't value them...They assume somehow they deserve them.

If he asks me I'll literally tell him EXACTLY why I'm not helping him anymore.

And the man isn't rude or bad...Just some people think OTHER people have to help them and there is no give and take.

Doesn't even enter their mind.

Nah...Dude threw a bunch of money away for the price of a 6 pack.

And I'm not helping him again.

I so wish I had know this lesson decades ago...Think of all the douchebags you've helped who never even said a proper thank you or bought you lunch when you helped them move or fixed their car etc etc etc.

Ever have a friend borrow your car and not even refill the gas they used?  Shit like that.
