Problem solved regarding how to paint the baseboards, without getting any on the carpet - just peel the carpet back. The tack strips used make that pretty easy. Just need to stretch it back into place, and push it back onto the tack strips.
Second coat done on the baseboards! Then time to peel off any of the painter's tape, and take care of any needed touch-up work.
