As a medical professional, after seeing the Kirk assassination video, I knew he was a dead man, the dark red blood was arterial blood, meaning the shot tore his artery and his arm spasms indicated that his spine was either chipped or hit dead on.

Tearing through an artery, almost always ends in certain death.
