This day of the week is named after Freyja, the nordic (warrior) goddess of love and fertility. In german language, this day is called FREITAG, which also comes from "FREYJAS TAG" = FREYJA'S DAY.
In Latin, the day was known as "Veneris Dies", "Venus' Day", Venus being the roman equivalent to Freyja : she was the goddess of love and fertility as well.
