  • The Stranger Part One.

It was a cold and foggy night as I trudged home from work. The mist swirled around me like dead white hands pulling me deeper into the dark depths of the evening.

After another long and exhausting day of working towards some unknown and unnamable goal,I was left as tired and disillusioned with the world as ever, and I was ready to go home and sleep the dreamless sleep of the weary.

But something was different about tonight.

I lived alone in a small apartment on the far side of town,in a run down building in a mostly uninhabited neighbourhood frequented only by petty criminals and poor office workers such as myself.

As such,I was used to going home alone, but tonight it appeared as if I had company.

Somewhere behind me,hidden in the fog,I could hear someone else walking slowly and softly.

I stopped and held my breath, but heard nothing.

I carried on,believing at first that I had been mistaken, and that it was in was only my imagination playing tricks on me.But I soon discovered that I was not in fact mistaken,I was not alone.

I stopped again and called out into the night,"Hello?"The sound of my voice echoed in the dark before returning to me,distorted and inhuman."Hello? Is anyone there?"

    Silence was my only reply.

Worried now,I began to walk faster,I turned and glanced over my shoulder just in time to see a man in a long dark coat walking behind me,his hat pulled down low and his hand clutching at something in his right hand coat pocket.

I took off in a run, dropping my briefcase as I frantically attempted to escape the man in the dark coat.He began running after me,pulling his hand out of his pocket as he chased after me,slipping briefly on some of the papers which fell out of my briefcase.I could see now that he had in his hand a small weapon resembling a knife, but with a longer, thinner blade and a sinister gleam.

"Help!Help!" I screamed out.But I was alone in the night, alone with a strange man with seemingly sinister intentions.

As I attempted  to escape my mysterious assailant,my feet got entangled in my own  coat and I fell to the ground, biting down on my tongue hard enough to taste blood while also falling atop my own hand, crushing it against the cold hard sidewalk and scraping the skin off my knuckles.

Before I could recover from my fall and continue my escape attempt,I felt a hand on my shoulder.I was pulled up roughly and then shoved down to the ground again. The man in the coat stood brfore me,his coat billowing in the wind like massive dark wings. Before I could get away,he dropped down, kneeling on my chest and pinning me to the ground.

I looked up towards his face and saw now that it  was obscured by blood stained rags resembling bandages, and in his eyes there was a look of animal desperation and inhuman rage. One eye was a strange white colour and had no discernable iris.

Frightened beyond my wits,I let out a long and terrified scream of desperation and fear, hoping that someone in a distant street would hear my cry for help and would come to my rescue.

For a few moments the man in the coat only stared at me,before I saw fear flash in his eyes, and apparently wanting to quiet this sudden outburst,he brought his blade down, brutally slashing my throat. My scream was cut short as I choked on my own blood.I spat out a gout of it as I hitched in my breath and prepared to scream again. Before I could,he brought the knife down once more, this time stabbing me in my eye before slowly dragging the cold metal blade out and across my face.He stabbed me in the face again, and again, and again......
