It seems a FB friend that was one of my best friends irl about 15 years ago when I lived in another state has gone full SJW. She posted a rant the other day that anyone who eats at Chick-Fil-A is basically an evil bastard on par with Leatherface and an "LGBTQ+ enemy" because Chick-fil-A donates a percentage of their profits to conversion therapy. Another friend then asked her if we should all ditch our smartphones because they use lithium batteries, and by her logic owning one means you support child labor and other not so great issues surrounding said batteries. Her reply was that it was not at all similar and that nobody needs Chick-Fil-A's food, but "in today's world you can't survive without a smartphone" - she actually said that. I agree with the basic premise that not owning a smartphone makes a good many things harder than they need to be, but lack of smartphone is quite survivable. Do these people really think wild exaggerations like that are helping their case or winning anyone over to see their side? It seems to me like it would do the opposite, as they're making themselves look like raving lunatics whose views can be disregarded- and arguably should be, as they're spouting unhinged nonsense. Rather than convince me to boycott the place, she made me wish there was one anywhere near me.

Once you realise Russia is capable of making any item you stop selling it, you realise just how strong Russia is.

This awesome brewery in my town does a fun weekly thing called "Music Bingo." It's set up like a "normal" bingo game, but the board is on your phone, accessed through a website, and each player's board combination is unique. Then they play music from a given category for each round, and if you think know the song/artist, and if your unique combination of the board has the song in the current column, you mark it as such. Then if you think you've got 5 in a row, you press the "Call Bingo" button from the site. Each round's winner gets a $10 gift card for the brewery / restaurant. I finally won a round tonight!

They usually do 4 rounds per night. The 4th round tonight went forever, with many folks ringing in, indicating that they *thought* they won...nope, they did not. Keep going. But we were all having fun, and I didn't want it to stop. So I started a chant, echoed across the bar, "One more round! One more round!" The dude running it decided to do so. Good times! Pretty much the most fun one might have in this otherwise lovely small town during the winter.
